12.Key technologies

Table 2 gives the key technologies for WIPAS STEP 2.

Table 2. Key Technologies
(1) Downsized and light-weight equipment based on MMIC and antenna technology
MMICs for RF module.
ASICs for baseband modules.
・AP is mountable on telephone pole.
・WT is mountable on veranda or under the eaves of customer premises.

(2) Choice of AP antennas for diverse deployment conditions
・Omni antenna and sectored antenna for residential areas
・Horn antenna (wide directivity in vertical plane) to accommodate apartment houses.
・Cassegrain antenna for point-to-point radio connections.

(3) Fairness control of throughput against heavy users
Round-robin control and queuing.

(4) OpS for WIPAS OAM services
・Carries on tests (BER, loop-back, etc.), monitoring and alarm detections.
・Supports advanced functions.

(5) Radio zone design system
・Realistic interference estimations and economical deployment design is achieved using 3D database (incl. geographical features and architecture)
・Tree height data can be easily added to 3D map data base by using tree photograph data.
・Improved address reference functions.

(6) Economical installation methods
・Minimal-cost installation methods are achieved by parallel development of equipment and metal supports.

(7) Advanced functions
・Adaptive modulation.
・Minimum bandwidth guarantee.
・P-P communications.
