NTT Device Technology Laboratories: Departmental Research Overview

Sustainable Device Technology Laboratory

Researchers in a wide variety of technical fields with basic knowledge in chemistry and physics seamlessly combine their skills in engineering and programming to conduct research and development that contributes to the realization of a sustainable society. Its main mission is to develop technologies for the environment and infrastructure. One is to realize the recycling of carbon and resources by valuing greenhouse gases and enhancing the utilization of resources, and the other is to extend the life and improve the maintenance efficiency of infrastructure facilities owned by the NTT Group and society.

Active Life and Design Technology Laboratory

With our technology, we bring an active life to everyone

From 'Measuring' to 'Changing': Research Department Designing Future Health.

Our research department aims to create a society where everyone can lead a healthy and positive life, regardless of age, physical condition, or living environment. Instead of 'medical care after illness,' we strive to realize 'health-creating medical care and healthcare,' and 'a future where people can remain healthy.' To achieve this, we pursue a wide range of technologies, from "defensive technologies" that support treatment and diagnosis using cutting-edge sensing, modeling, and device development, to "proactive technologies" that support people's behaviors and lifestyle.

Photonics-Electronics Convergence Laboratory

We are advancing research and development in photonics-electronics convergence technologies by enhancing both fields and integrating them not only at the device level but also across software and system layers. This enables the realization of next-generation network and computing technologies with high capacity, low latency, energy efficiency, and high flexibility, thereby contributing to innovation in the field of information and communications.

Materials and Devices Laboratory

Our mission is to research the fusion of different materials, manufacturing processes, and nano/microstructure device technologies to create novel devices that lead to paradigm shifts. Utilizing silica-based planar lightwave circuit technology, compound semiconductor optical and electronic device technology, silicon photonics technology, and nonlinear optical device technology, we carry out research and development of innovative optical and electronic devices for future networks and computings and for creating new value by applying them to various fields.
